World Mental Health Day is observed every year on 10 October to raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to seek support when needed. The day highlights the importance of emotional well-being, early identification of mental health concerns, and access to quality mental healthcare.
The Institute of Public Health & Hygiene, College of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences, Jammu, recognizes the importance of mental health awareness in building a healthier and more supportive society. Promoting mental well-being helps individuals, families, and communities understand mental health challenges and respond to them with care and compassion.
The main objectives of observing World Mental Health Day are:
Mental health is an essential part of overall health. Stress, anxiety, emotional difficulties, and other mental health concerns can affect a person’s daily life, education, work, and relationships. Open conversations and proper guidance can help people recognize when they need support.
Educational institutions and healthcare professionals have an important role in spreading awareness, providing reliable information, and encouraging compassionate attitudes towards mental health. Nursing students, in particular, need to understand the importance of listening to patients, respecting their privacy, and providing care without judgement.
World Mental Health Day reminds us that mental health deserves attention, understanding, and appropriate care. By promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging timely professional support, we can help create a more inclusive and supportive community.
IPHH Jammu encourages greater awareness of mental health and the importance of treating every individual with respect, empathy, and dignity.
